Windows 2000 ResKit IE6 Documentation Patch

M. Gallant 11/26/2001

The script ResKitPatch vbs script provides a simple workaround to the warning message window that users of Windows 2000 Resource Kit see with the IE6 browser (the problem does not occur for IE5). Instructions are included in the comment block in the vbs file. The script first detects the version of IE and then starts the documentation .chm help file(s) for the Resource Kit and waits for the help window to appear. If the version of IE is 6, an ENTER key simulation is sent to the application, which dismisses the warning message. Typically, the warning window will be seen only very briefly if at all, depending on the speed of the windows platform.

For greater convenience, install this preconfigured ResKitApp hta application that contains clickable images to each of the five Resource Kit help files. Unzip the file into any directory, keep all file components together, and launch the reskitapp.hta file directly to start the gui. If some of the links don't work, simply edit the .hta source file with the correct paths for your configuration. The ENTER key to dismiss the warning dialog is only sent for version 6 of IE and therefore this application should work for all versions of IE. (screen shot below)
