The great Orion Nebula M42 is illuminated by a bright star system, the Trapezium (designated as θ1) near its center. The characteristic reddish color of the nebula is due to the dominant visible hydrogen atom emission line. This animation zooms in by factors of x2 (with final slide a factor of x10) to show details of the Trapezium. Photographs in first 3 slides are by Michel Gallant 2023. Screen-shots of zoom-in slides are from Stellarium Mobile Pro app and annotated with the lateral field of view in degrees.
