WasapiWavMon: Precision Audio Monitor/Recorder
May 25, 2026
WasapiWavMon is a Windows 10/11 .NET application that monitors the audio-input of
the computers sound card. It is designed to provide detailed accurate audio-level input status
for either built-in audio sound cards or external USB-connected audio interfaces (for example,
the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2). This application uses low-level WASAPI (Windows Audio Session API)
and requires an installed .NET 8 runtime and is only supported on Win10 and Win11.
Features:
- Samples the left and right channels of a stereo sound card at Wasapi 32 bit resolution and at the curren't audio devices sampling frequency (44.1, 48, 96 kHz)
- The meter bar-graph display is in linear units
- The numeric display below the meters displays instantaneous -dBFS peak units
- The Max values (since Start) is displayed for both channels
- A "event" Count function counts peak audio signals above a Threshold value (default -6dBFS)
- A central "Record" function records the sampled input audio and writes a wav file as either a 16 or 24 bit standard uncompressed .wav file at the input sampling frequency of the audio device.
- During Record mode, a convenient timer shows the elapsed recording time.
